More than a catchy headline, this question is one we all need to think about when it comes to exercise and how we make our way in the world. And it is true at every stage of your life. The choices we make in our work and in our play affect our bodies and cause them to adapt in both positive and negative ways. A good training program has to address both.
For this reason, I look at the movement patterns we use in our everyday lives (both active and sedentary) as the basis for structuring a workout. In my mind there are five core movement patterns: hinging at the hips, bending at the knees, stabilizing the spine, upper body pulling and upper body pushing. Please check out this first movement pattern video.
